AmEx Updates Resy Platform to Make Using Credits Easier

American Express has updated its Resy restaurant-reservation platform with a new icon that shows cardholders whether a venue is eligible for statement credits, the company said [1]. The icon appears on the Resy website and mobile app when a user has an American Express card saved in their profile, removing the guesswork from redeeming dining benefits [1]. The change arrives as American Express prepares to fold in Tock, a competing online reservations platform it recently acquired, later this year [1]. That integration will add Tock’s roster of restaurants to the Resy system, which already lists venues in most major destinations [1]. American Express has also proposed acquiring TheFork, a platform with more than 50,000 restaurants across 11 European countries [1]. If that deal closes, the combined network would reach nearly 75,000 bookable venues, according to the company [1]. Eligible establishments extend beyond traditional restaurants to wineries, bottle shops, bars, steakhouses, sushi bars, and crab shacks [1]. Cardholders do not need to book through Resy to qualify for the credit; enrolling an eligible American Express card in the platform is sufficient [1]. The update follows a pattern of American Express expanding its digital services through acquisitions. In 2020, the company purchased the Atlanta-based online lender Kabbage and later rebranded its mobile app as American Express Business Blueprint [3]. The Resy icon is designed to help diners identify participating locations before they arrive, and the platform will also flag restaurants that do not accept American Express cards, preventing customers from expecting a credit they cannot use [1]. American Express has not disclosed how many restaurants currently display the icon, but the company said venues are added and removed on a rolling basis [1].
