Deputy Director of Enforcement Jason Burt to Conclude His Tenure at the SEC

Jason Burt, Deputy Director of Enforcement at the Securities and Exchange Commission, will depart the agency on May 1, 2026, after more than 22 years of service [1]. Burt, who was appointed Deputy Director for Specialized Units in April 2025, supervised enforcement investigations and litigations across several units, including Asset Management, Complex Financial Instruments, and Cyber and Emerging Technologies [1]. He also oversaw the Office of the Whistleblower and the Commission’s Cross-Border Task Force [1]. “Serving at the SEC for more than two decades has been an honor and a privilege,” Burt said [1]. Acting Enforcement Director Sam Waldon stated his appreciation for Burt's leadership and commitment to the agency’s mission [1]. Burt began his SEC career as an attorney advisor in the Division of Examinations before moving to the Division of Enforcement [1]. He later served as Regional Director of the Denver Regional Office, supervising over 125 staff members [1]. His tenure was recognized with multiple awards, including the Chairman’s Award for Excellence in 2010 and the Scott W. Friestad award in 2024 [1]. Burt holds a business degree from James Madison University and a law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill [1].
