Grant puts gloss on paint recycling enterprise

A Cambridgeshire social enterprise has secured a £400,000 National Lottery grant to expand its paint recycling and reuse services [1]. The funding will be released over five years to support the 20-year-old organization [1]. The grant was awarded to Remo, based in the Fenland market town of March [1][5]. Development director Nikki Digiovanni stated the funding will enable the enterprise to hire more staff and operate seven days a week [1]. Digiovanni, who once lived in temporary housing where she was prohibited from decorating, cited the high cost of paint as a personal motivation for the project [1]. "I had to get an extra Saturday job to be able to afford to freshen up my home," she said [1]. The enterprise recycles paint and other materials to make home decoration more affordable [1]. March is an administrative centre in Cambridgeshire, a county where the flat, drained marshland of the Fens dominates the north and east [5][6]. The town grew as an important railway hub and was historically an island in the Great Level before the land was drained [5]. Social enterprises like Remo often rely on grant funding to scale operations and extend community services. The five-year disbursement of the £400,000 grant provides a stable financial foundation for this expansion [1].
