A Peugeot electric-vehicle owner is paying £450 a month for a car they cannot drive after it disappeared into a repair network that lost track of it, leaving the driver without transport for more than two months. [1] The vehicle, a new Peugeot EV, stopped working within a fortnight of delivery. [1] The dealer postponed the initial repair appointment by a month, citing a backlog. [1] Peugeot Assist, operated by the RAC, collected the car two weeks ago, but it never reached the dealer. [1] The RAC later stated the dealer refused to accept the vehicle because it was still too busy, and the car was placed in storage. [1] The owner, identified only as AS from Woking, called Peugeot and the RAC 36 times and sent multiple emails without locating the car. [1] The RAC paid £250 in compensation for failing to communicate. [1] Peugeot is one of 14 brands owned by Stellantis, the multinational formed in 2021 through the merger of PSA Group and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. [2] Stellantis is controlled in part by Exor, the holding company of the Italian Agnelli family. [3] The owner’s problems deepened after the car was eventually delivered to a different dealer. [1] In early February, Peugeot promised compensation and a courtesy car that never arrived. [1] When the owner collected the vehicle at the beginning of March, it could not be charged, the boot would not open, the driver’s window opened and closed on its own, and the remote locking was faulty. [1] Peugeot said a necessary spare part had been arranged, but the dealer required the car to be brought in, which was impossible because it could not be charged. [1] The owner has attempted to rescind the lease contract with Leasys since January, but the company refused, arguing the dealer considered the car driveable and another repair was planned. [1] Leasys did not respond to requests for comment. [1] Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, customers can reject faulty new vehicles if a repair fails or is not carried out within a reasonable time. [1] Because the owner has a credit agreement with Leasys, the case falls under the Financial Ombudsman Service. [1]
